TVPaint Animation
TVPaint Animation is a raster-based 2D animation software, developed by TVPaint Développement in France. The software allows users to produce animation which looks like it was made on paper but much more quickly than if they were using traditional methods thanks to high-performance and easy-to-use tools.
Why we recommend this software:
We have been using this animation software for many years, and we have also tested many of the various alternative animation software / apps as well. Through working with students over many years, there is a tendency for many to use cheap or free alternative software, but we keep noticing significant software limitations that continually remind us of the importance of using a software that is actually going to grow with you as an artist; a software that doesn’t inhibit your creativity by it’s limited features, but instead gives you ample room to grow and expand as you learn more about it.
There are simpler, cheaper alternatives, but you will eventually outgrow them as an animator, and then have to retrain using a more feature-rich software later that is more suitable for professional productions, like TVPaint!
This is why we highly recommend getting started using this powerful software, especially while you’re perhaps a young student, to begin learning a software that you’ll keep with you and never outgrow, and especially one that includes a perpetual license (with optional paid updates later).
